As the fine weather arrives, Le Mans’ marina is springing to life. Licence-free barge and electric boat hire is adding to the bustle of activity.

[…] Last March, to increase the marina’s capacity, a new 8 metre pontoon was added…The new facility will allow the barge hire firm Maine Anjou Rivières to set up in Le Mans. The company has a fleet of 35 vessels, available to hire with no licence necessary. Ideal for a short break, or sailing to Sablé via the 18 locks… Barge holidays are clearly in vogue. “Increasingly, people are looking for peace and quiet. On a boat, there’s no stress,” acknowledges Isabelle Lucotte-Le Visage, a volunteer for the Association of Le Mans Marina Users.

Until the end of June, holidaymakers will flock to take advantage of the midweek and weekend mini-breaks offered by Maine Anjou Rivières. Then, the summer period will focus on week-long breaks. “Financially, people are being more careful. But even those who just take a few days are delighted to get out on the water,” explains Isabelle Lucotte-Le Visage.
